Les Faceties

Les faceties of Armando Romero

Armando Romero is considered a neo-eclectic painter; it combines versions of historical paintings by artists such as Caravaggio, Rembrandt, Goya and Bosch, with irreverent contemporary imagery, allowing emotion and reason to run free. One of Romero's virtues is his sense of parody, of humor and his paintings are full of signs and suggestions. He is inspired by everything he sees, leaving no image aside.

The use of comics in his work is an associative, current and popular idea. The comics are chosen for their meanings but also for their colors. These serve to compensate for the chromatic composition of the painting, having a very important effect for Romero.

The artist was born in Mexico City in 1964. After studying at the National School of Painting, Sculpture and Engraving "La Esméralda" in Mexico City, he became a professor of sculpture, painting and art history from 1991 to 1997, while also teaching at the Center for Studies and Sciences and Communication in Mexico City from 1991 to 1993.

In 1998, Romero represented Mexico for the Exhibition of Emerging Artists of Latin America held in Paris. In 2001, he taught sculpture and participated in "The International Studio Program of the National Foundation for Advancement in the Arts" in the United States. In 2002, he taught painting at the School of Visual Arts in Michoacán, Mexico.
