Marcus Lyons
Brics & Exodus

The evolution of urban spaces describes the life and economy of today's world.

This is a visible change in the photographic work of Marcus Lyon, an English artist who presents in his Brics and Exodus series the transformation of cities due to mass migration. This phenomenon has converted urban societies into large communities with limited freedom, all to take advantage of economic opportunities.

Marcus Lyon is a British artist born in 1965 and brought up in rural Britain. Lyon studied Political Science at the University of Leeds, Leadership at Harvard Business School and Performance Measurement at the Kennedy School of Government. His first works were with Amnesty International in Latin America where the artist gathered inspiration for his exploration of the issues of development and urbanization. Marcus Lyon explores the interface between man and nature in the 20th century.

His photographs also include a wide range of public figures: Queen Elizabeth II, Bill Nighy and the last four British Prime Ministers. This work is due to the reputation that Lyon has built up as a portraitist over a period of twenty-five years of career.

With the Brics and Exodus series, Lyon's work has become a large-scale exploration of urban sprawl and migration in the modern world.

In the last two decades, this artist has traveled to more than 90 countries because of his work and his commissions. Thus, the public can appreciate multiplied landscapes in the big urban cities where the population increases rapidly every year. This phenomenon takes place in large territories such as Brazil, Russia, India and China. The 21st century has brought a significant number of migrations, which has transformed the spaces and lives of residents who are always on the move.
